I will share with you, however, my most hated phrase. It is ‘moving forward’ or ‘going forward’ or just about anything forward, including Yorkshire Forward.
Tomorrow, or soon, or sometime, or in the future used to suffice. But they just aren’t thrusting enough are they. They get a bit vague beyond tomorrow. And besides its not just about time is it. It’s about bigger and brighter and better.
Listen to politicians and senior civil servants and economic commentators and analysts.
The phrase is all over the place. And it means nothing.
It means I want you to forget the crap we’re in, the mess I’ve just made, despite all evidence to the contrary, despite the state of things as a result of the belief system (usually economic) I’ve flogged you.... I want to look ahead, look up, look forward... its going to be yes.... bigger, brighter, better.
When you hear those words, duck or guffaw.
View the Road to Nowhere video below right for a bit 80s nostalgia.
