Christians are rightwingers...aren't they?

Its very frustrating being a Christian with seriously left leanings. No matter what our political persuasions, we are all, it feels to me, usually assumed to believe something like the yank Christians, including George Bush, that TV channels like to make programmes about. Welll, its not true....of most of us anyway. Twenty five years ago I visited the Sojourner's community/church on Southern Columbia Heights, a mile up the road from the White House; it was a nearly 100% black area with helicopters regularly buzzing it. These people had been there for years already and they still are, working to help overcome the effects of oppression and poverty. Any type of Christian is a lot more media savvy over there generally or so it seems because of our awareness of the 'religious right' and TV evangelists. But Sojourners, on the left of political spectrum (well that's left for yanks anyway) not only has a monthly magazine that has a distribution of about 250,000, a high profile 'leader' in Jim Wallis, a Guardian accredited 'modern day prophet' arrested over a dozen times for praying on the White House lawn; it also has a website with an e-magazine which we have added a link to. If you want an alternative take on what some of us care about, take a look. http://www.sojo.net/
